Everyone Old is New Again in Washington

The Financial Times whispers that John Thain, current but probably soon-to-be-ex head of Merrill Lynch, might go into politics now that he's gone face-up in the private sector.

Thain used to be a head honcho at Goldman Sachs, the place that also sent Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, New Jersey senator Jon Corzine, former Deputy Secretary of State John Whitehead, former Treasury Secretary Rob Rubin and economic advisor Stephen Friedman to Washington.

Incidentally, the Sachs-politics lovefest crosses party lines: these men served every President since Reagan.
