Rich Man's Strategy for Surviving Homelessness: Invest in Yahoo

Sudhir Venkatesh, general econ home boy and sort of a phenom, posts about making poverty personal for rich men.

The best part: that the homeless guy saves $1 over the weekend. Meanwhile, the rich man mocks himself more than he knows when he says that he'll spend his 20 bucks on Yahoo stock. Please! $20 is how much you have to tip a broker!

It’s just too good. After four years of econ, I now think the most effective philanthropy is to hand someone $10 and tell him to go to town. I’m not kidding. Let people decide their own utility.
